The EDU Book transforms the mobile phone into a school computer.

The EDU Book transforms the mobile phone into a school computer. It connects the analogue and digital worlds with its A4-sized electronic-ink-display. When put onto the EDU Book, the phone automatically switches into school mode - it blocks call and text functions. The EDU software is optimised for school work and brings the robust, flexible, light and inexpensive EDU Book to digital life. The mobile phone transforms from a problem to a solution. The EDU Book not only substitutes a calculator, overhead projector and PC, it is also a robust tool for studies outside school - superior to any laptop: Analogue work can be documented by camera and archived in a digital format. The Vision for the future: EDU Book brings education to less privileged schools - it hardly needs energy, can not outdate, because the software is updated via cellphone, and enables children to learn freely with the help of the internet.
A 5 month-long research has been conducted prior. Subsequent discussions with teachers, principals, parents, education authorities of Austria, and specialists enabled a holistic overview of their challenges. The workshop was inspired by the „Design Thinking for Educators’ Toolkit“ and took place at four different schools with children from 6 to 15 years. During the workshop, the class had to explore, define, discuss, invent, draw, build and present their thoughts on what their perfect school looks like.
